Cape May one of our favorite stops

Cape May Mansion

September 23rd 25th Around 6:30 in the morning the sounds of  rising anchors nearby could be heard. We joined in and made short work of getting our anchor aboard the boat. Mother nature was threatening heavy thunderstorms in the afternoon and with that the winds would be making the seas uncomfortable. Our destination today was Cape May and we estimated that our arrival would be in time before the skies would fall. As we travelled south, Mother Nature began to give hints as to what her plans would be for the day. The waves began on the beam and the Summer Wind started to get a little tossed around. We were very happy to be docked at Utsch's Marina shortly around noon. Our travelling companions Satisfaction and Shangri-la made the choice to continue for another 70 miles. We just said nope, that's just not our idea of cruising and wished them a safe journey.
The dockhands are very familiar with our boat and welcomed us back. Of course they're still handing out their wonderful welcome package which contains a bottle of NJ Blueberry(?!) wine, great biscotti's, soap and local information. Oh yes, they also hand out the key to the heads, check out the picture and see if you can spot it. Definitely can't forget to turn that back into the office.
Before we could do anything touristy, there are always chores. Today the Summer Wind needed a good washdown and tidying. After that, we walked over to the Lobster house, not to dine in but to check out their fresh seafood  market. The captain decided he'd like to treat for dinner so we made plans to go out to the Lucky bones that evening. Just before we headed out the skies opened up with a huge deluge, good thing we carry an umbrella. The restaurant was packed but we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Oh yes, we discovered that large key rings are huge thing in this area, we spotted a customer walking around with a frying pan as a key ring. Now we wonder how many frying pans have walked away?
We spent two nights in Cape May. On our second day, we walked  all over visiting our favorite places. This weekend there was a boating flea market at Utsch's and an Artist festival at the outdoor boutique mall. We had a great day checking out the local artwork and of course we found great ice cream. We walked along the beachwalk and the winds were definitely kicking up.

We had made it back to the Summer Wind just in time before the skies opened up once again. There were heavy rains pouring, so that evening we enjoyed a lovely dinner aboard the boat. Just as we were relaxing watching the news, we noticed the sky was clearing up and there was a hint we may just catch a rainbow. Sure enough we went outside and just above the Summer Wind there was a marvellous rainbow to behold.
