Sunrise on the Sound
This morning Sept 21st at 6:30 in the morning we are happy to report that we cast off the lines and set the Summer Wind free . I had never seen the Captain so enthralled to be out on the water. He had a smile a mile wide and kept saying how happy he was to be at the helm once again! Why so early in the morning? Well it's UN week and the whole East River was shutting down around 9:30. President Barack Obama was giving a speech at the assembly and security was going to be very high, even on the water. This timing schedule worked out great with the tides at one point the Captain noticed we were travelling through Hells Gate at ll.7 kts, at only 1600 rpms. Our plan was once we were out into the NY harbor we'd decide where to stop for the day. It was a hazy day for travelling along New York City, one moment we'd have a crystal clear skyline and the next moment big misty fog banks would roll in and blanket the skyscrapers. Looking down into NY harbor we noticed the Verrazano Bridge was also blanketed in fog. A quick check with the NOAA weather station reported the fog to be lifting in the morning. So,, what to do ,, go out in the ocean or just drop the hook in Atlantic Highlands. Well we decided to head out and 'take a look'. It turned out the seas were fairly flat and calm. Slowly the fog did lift and we had a great trip out in the ocean. Our stop today was the Glimmer Glass anchorage. Not long after we dropped the hook we had company, Shangri-la and Satisfaction joined us in this small protected anchorage.
