A New Side Trip to Delaware City

September 25th-  Before departing Cape May we topped up our diesel tanks at $3.74/gal. Would you believe the dockhands were at the marina by 7am. This worked out great because we'd were able to catch some of the tide heading up the Delaware Bay. Just as we were heading down the canal we noticed two things. There were a pair of eagles sitting in the trees and then we noticed  that  we were heading directly into a huge fog bank out into the bay. It seems that the fog is not going away anytime soon.

Every trip we try to explore a new destination. Not that we haven't visited by car, it's just unique to visit via the Summer Wind. Our destination today was Delaware City. Cruisers we've talked to said it is comparible with Chesapeake City which we love. So, out onto the bay we went and headed north. We couldn't see where we were heading, thank goodness for the gps that reassures we're heading in the right direction. The seas were calm, but with the sun trying to cut through the fog, there was an eerie feeling as we were travelling.If you've ever driven through the fog, sometimes you feel like your going cross eyed just to see what's in front of your face. Then there's a clearing, and you feel yourself breathing easier, not really realizing how closed in you've grown accustomed to feeling. Halfway up the bay the tide had started to change. Thank goodness the fog had lifted somewhat because we could spot huge logs floating pass us down the bay. We were warned about a lot of debris on the bays because of the heavy storms over the past month.
Late afternoon we were nearing Delaware City. It had been an extremely long day. The tide had definitely slowed us down.  We turned into the narrow passage way to the marina and the captain did a 180* turn and docked the boat. Both of us were tired but we wanted to explore this small city, so out we went for a walk. They have a great walking area along the waterfront, but the town is showing stress from the bad economy. Homes aren't as well kept as they are in Chesapeake City.

After our walk we went back to the marina with plans to have dinner and just relax for the night. However just as we were approaching the marina we met up with a group of cruisers that were having a Karaoke night. They had the machine and invited us to sit and join them for cocktails. So we did! We had a great time listening to them sing and you know they weren't half bad!! They tried to tell us all new transients are requested to sing but we assured them, we were protecting their ears from catastrophy!
